Arizona State Senator Linda Lopez retracted an inflammatory statement she made in the wake of the Tucson massacre that identified the shooter as a veteran of the United States military who had served in Afghanistan.
While she did not apologize for the remark, she did appear to make a concerted effort at damage control, which is at least one step in the right direction for a country whose politicians and media have resorted to bloodthirsty and hyper-partisan rhetoric in the aftermath of the gruesome killings.
