None of the poems below are particularly long, and all of them are certainly memorable.
- Shakespeare, Sonnet 73 – I give a general method for reading poetry (“New Criticism”) in this post. And for this poem, I actually stick to the method (I think).
- Emily Dickinson, “If I can stop one heart from breaking…” – been muttering this to myself recently at times.
- Jane Kenyon, “Otherwise” – any comment on this wouldn’t do it justice.
- Kay Ryan, “Sharks’ Teeth” – it’s complicated and packed, but short, and the main questions are almost intuitive.
