ABC News Exclusive: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Attack' in Amst

Suspects Had Been Cleared Sunday by TSA in Chicago, Birmingham Despite Security Concerns

The two were allowed to board the flight at O'Hare airport last night despite security concerns surrounding one of them, the officials said.

Two men taken off a Chicago-to-Amsterdam United Airlines flight in the Netherlands have been charged by Dutch police with "preparation of a terrorist attack," U.S. law enforcement officials tell ABC News.

U.S. officials said the two appeared to be travelling with what were termed "mock bombs" in their luggage. "This was almost certainly a dry run, a test," said one senior law enforcement official.

A spokesman for the Dutch public prosecutor, Ernst Koelman, confirmed the two men were arrested this morning and said "the investigation is ongoing." He said the arrests were made "at the request of American authorities."

al-Qaeda Attacks Two American Bases In Afghanistan & Gets Their Asses Handed To Them

SEMPER FI.....

“In some ways, we think right now it is probably giving our enemy sustenance,” Conway said of the July 2011 deadline.

Over the weekend our troops in Afghanistan beat back two complex attacks on two of our forward bases by members of The Haqqani Network.  A network of fighters that have links with both al-Qaeda and the Taliban as well as the Pakistan ISI agency.  They have a foothold in North Waziristan and make that area their headquarters.

The Haqqani Network has been implicated in some of the biggest terror attacks in the Afghan capital city of Kabul, including the January 2008 suicide assault on the Serena hotel, the February 2009 assault on Afghan ministries, and the July 2008 and October 2009 suicide attacks against the Indian embassy.

The al Qaeda-linked Haqqani Network lost more than 30 fighters and a commander during the Aug. 28 attack on two US forward operating bases in eastern Afghanistan.

Coming August 31: ‘Direct Access’ Stimulus Grants for the Muslim Brotherhood

Think of it as ACORN reborn, with a slice of Jihad on the side.

Think of it as ACORN reborn, with a slice of Jihad on the side.

On August 31, this coming Tuesday, the Muslim Brotherhood-associated “Coordinating Council of Muslim Organizations” (CCMO) will bring 25-30 Muslim leaders of 20 national Muslim groups to attend a special workshop presented by the White House and U.S. Government agencies (Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services etc.) to provide the groups “funding, government assistance and resources.”  The workshop will apparently provide special access for these Muslim Brotherhood organizations: the organizers pledge to provide “direct access” and “cut through red tape.” Government and Muslim groups will hold an Iftar dinner (breaking the fast of Ramadan) after the workshop.

The event was announced in an email newsletter sent August 27 by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism finance trial, long associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, the global Islamist network (great backgrounder here from Hudson Institute).   Here are three key paragraphs from the email (the entire article on the August 31 event from the ISNA email is pasted below this post as reference):

WASHINGTON --
Hate crimes directed against Muslims remain relatively rare, notwithstanding the notoriety gained by incidents such as recent vandalism at an Islamic center in Madera, Calif.

Jews, lesbians, gay men and Caucasians, among others, are all more frequently the target of hate crimes, FBI records show. Reported anti-Muslim crimes have declined over recent years, though they still exceed what occurred prior to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"We see hate crimes generally go in spurts, and are often in relation to international or domestic events," Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Friday.

In 2008, 105 hate crime "incidents" against Muslims were reported nationwide. There were 10 times more incidents recorded as anti-Jewish during the same year, the most recent for which figures are available.

Leftist attempt to undermine Second Amendment misses the mark

Amplify’d from www.washingtontimes.com

The Supreme Court's recent McDonald and Heller decisions have thus far thwarted the gun grabbers' best efforts by upholding the individual's right to own firearms. Late Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency added another victory to the list as it shot down an attempt to undermine the Second Amendment through the regulation of bullets. On Aug. 3, the American Bird Conservancy and groups like Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to ban traditional lead ammunition as a "health risk."

I spent this morning reading some of an essay by Heidegger, copying down a poem of Yeats’ into the journal (yes, I keep a pen and paper one). I’m very happy with how the third part of that Protagoras commentary turned out: it’s a good enough starting point for more work on the dialogue, and still solid enough for a jumping point into other dialogues.

First it was House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, making his pitch to the electorate to be made House speaker in part by calling for Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to be fired.

Now embattled Democrats are getting into the act.

Rep. Tom Perriello, a Virginia Democratic freshman and one of the most-endangered House members, has called for Geithner’s head, at a town-hall meeting in Ruckersville, Va. In a news release Thursday, the Jefferson Area Tea Party, not Perriello’s best mate, struck a rare note of agreement with the Democratic lawmaker – sort of.

Arizona To 9th Circuit: Court Has Denied Police The Opportunity To Reasonably Interpret & Apply Law In A Constitu

Judicial Watch filed a new brief on behalf of Arizona asking the 9th Circuit to reverse the injunction granted by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton.

According to the new brief: “Even though the Arizona Legislature has done nothing more than enact a series of law enforcement provisions under its well-recognized police powers to protect its citizens from serious public safety concerns, the district court has denied Arizona law enforcement officers the opportunity to reasonably interpret and apply the provisions in a constitutionally valid manner.”

BlockbusterStore1 After dominating the home video rental business for more than a decade and struggling to survive in recent years against upstarts Netflix and Redbox, Blockbuster Inc. is preparing to file for bankruptcy next month, according to people who have been briefed on the matter.

Executives from Blockbuster and its senior debt holders last week held meetings with the six major movie studios to discuss their intention to enter a “pre-planned” bankruptcy in mid-September, said several people familiar with the situation who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of ongoing talks.

US State Department builds mosques in 27 countries

US State Department builds mosques in 27 countries

I couldn’t believe my ears when a listener to my national radio show this week told me she was certain that our State Department was funding,  building and renovating Mosques in 27 countries using US tax dollars.  I thought,  she must have partial,  incorrect info,  it seemed so absurd to me.  I had heard nothing of this anywhere.  Then just yesterday I confirmed that this was indeed true through a variety of sources and with Frank Salvato,  editor of new media journal.

What I have uncovered is unacceptable,  obscene and should be fought at all levels by the American people.  Our State Dept.  is using undisclosed amounts of US tax dollars to build and renovate Islamic Mosques in 27 different countries.  They do this under an ‘outreach’ program with the purpose of fostering ‘good will’  in Muslim countries.  The state department will not reveal just how much they spend on overseas,  foreign programs but a very reliable source told me most likely it is in the hundreds of billions.

Does Conservatism Have a Future?

A friend and I have been going back and forth on this. His claim is that much of the stuff I see now in campaigning will drop away when it becomes time to govern. The playbook is simply “just throw as much crazy stuff as you can at the opposition, get something to stick, win, and then respond to necessities.”

Socrates in Hades: On Plato’s Protagoras, Part III

there may be a conflict between poetry and the city. Poetry oftentimes works on the assumption "virtue is knowledge:" isn't it the case if you read a poem well, you will be better for it? The city, on the other hand, has laws and enforcers of the laws not just because people won't read, but because even those who know better may not act better.

The question, if this conflict holds: Where do Protagoras (sophistry) and Socrates (philosophy) come in? A good portion of the Protagoras is a discussion of a poem of Simonides.
